So, Apolo Anton Ohno prevailed on Dancing with the Stars, and took home the hideous mirror ball trophy . . . now I can die a happy woman. . .
.

I have been driving my current car, a small suv, for about 5 1/2 years, and although I usually drive my cars for about 8 - 10 years, I'm thinking about checking out a Toyota Prius. I'd like to move into a hybrid for a number of reasons, and the look of the Prius is starting to grow on me . . .

I'm proud of myself for being a big girl this week, and notifying the folks with whom I work that I am raising my hourly rates. My deep seated insecurities kept me from doing this a month ago, but I finally got the gumption, and guess what? The world didn't end, no one threatened never to work with me again, and in fact, a bunch of new work came my way today. Things have been a bit slow, so I'm excited about the prospect of being a bit busier . . . some one has to pay to keep Nanners and Noodles in Scooby Snacks, pay to keep me in lovely yarn to knit and books to read, and pay for me to travel to cool places . . .

Good for you on raising your rates. And good for you and all of us if you get a hybrid. I've been thinking about one for my next car.

Glad you got the raise! That way you won't have to sue my friend for slaunder.

Congratulations on your self-imposed raise! You seem like you're good at lawyer-ing, so I'm sure your clients feel it's well worth it to keep you around.

I've flirted with the idea of a hybrid, but I don't do enough city driving to make it worth it. That's what I get for living in the country. If you do get a Prius, let us all know what you think!

From what I have read, the Prius is the hybrid. But would there be enough room for N & N?

dan - if I go test drive, I'll post my impressions!

sage - hey, truth is an absolute defense!

mishy - thanks!

flix - there are quite a few parked on the parking structure, and they are pretty roomy inside . . . b/c Nanners LOVES to go in the car.

Sugar, I haven't watched last night's Dancing with the Stars yet, I was trying to avoid seeing who won until I watched it=)

Congrats on the raise! That's always a good thing!!

I wish I could set my rates but its a union office. Which is fine...sometimes.

A hybrid is out of my price range but I love Toyotas. I loved the look of Echo but they stopped making them and replaced it with Yaris(?) which is equally cute. Yes, I'm all about small and cute.

What colour do you want?

(still sulking about your not taking me to Maui....!)

OFF topic, but I didn't know where to mail you. The little penguins i saw last night - when they get into an oil slick, they clean them off but have to put little sweaters on them for awhile so they don't pick at their ruined feathers. People from around the world knit these little sweaters for the little penguins. As a knitter and animal lover, I thought you and LA might find that interesting.

P.S. You will LOVE snorkeling in Maui. If you couldn't do Scuba, get onto a boat that offers SNUBA. Same experience without the certification. Get out to Molakini, you'll love it.

Diane- Major props on the "raise."

Let me know what you think of the Prius. I'm definitely going to go hybrid on my next car purchase, and the Prius is the leading contender (I've only owned Toyotas my whole life).

Edit - Australia is home to SERIOUS knitting and wool production. There is an Aussie artist who knit a HOUSE cozy. Like a tea cozy but for a HOUSE, I kid you not. I would gladly knit for the penguins!

We're thinking "hybrid" for our next car, too. Although we're learning towards the Honda Civic, purely based on aesthetic value.

Although I am a huge fan of the Toyota Motor Company, I can't say the same for the Prius or hybrids in general. There is a wealth of evidence that shows hybrids can be even more environmentally hazardous - both in their manufacture and their disposal - that a high mileage gasoline engine car.

Having said that... 60 miles to the gallon sure sounds good right now.

Care to link to this "wealth of evidence"?

All I could find is some debate over the batteries hybrid vehicles use. But counter arguments abound. First, the battery technology is evolving to become more eco-friendly. And second, traditional car batteries are also hazardous but we've countered that with a widespread recycling program. A similar program will develop for hybrid batteries as they gain more market share. In fact, Toyota and Honda have toll-free numbers on their hybrid batteries to help insure these batteries are returned to them and properly recycled.

Does that mean you will be buying rounds at Mother's this weekend? I'm thirsty (and I'm drinking Miller High Life).
